Further, they only fire a mining beam via line of sight. Essentially, more of everything plus more. Once released it will quickly mine all blocks in the direction it moves for a few seconds before exploding.
At some point my roommate got the P-7 Miner which is the second form of the mining laser (and is unable to remember where he got it), and now we are unable to find a way to create another one, or any of the upgrades for that matter.
It is used in the same manner as the items it replaced and is also currently used to upgrade Mining Lasers at the Mining Bench. The Mining Laser rapidly flashes a strong light while being fired and may cause photosensitive epilepsy, especially when used in dark areas. It is closer to a Total Conversion and extends gameplay in Starbound by approximately 50-200 hours. Frackin’ Universe is a complete overhaul of Starbound, to the point where they warn you that it’s a “one-way-trip” if you install it.
It is not recommended for a first playthrough – go beat the base, vanilla game first. The first few are very weak, but the later ones are quite strong. Making building and mining an easy task to do.
